What We Learned in Nantucket About the Fourth of July

A funny thing happened during one of our workshops in Nantucket last summer.

We started talking about the Fourth of July, expecting everyone to share their favorite traditions. Instead, many of the women admitted something completely different.

They loved having everyone together... but they dreaded everything leading up to it.

The pressure to make the house look perfect. The red, white and blue decorations. The special plates. The grocery shopping. The cooking. Making sure everyone was happy.

By the time everyone finally sat down to enjoy the day, they realized they'd spent most of it managing the celebration instead of experiencing it.

It led to one of our favorite conversations of the summer.

Our Philosophy

At Live better longer, we're always asking the same question:

What are we trying to create?

If the goal of the Fourth of July is connection, laughter, and making memories with the people you love, then shouldn't your energy be spent there?

The decorations won't be what your grandchildren remember.

They'll remember playing in the yard.

Watching fireworks together.

Laughing around the dinner table.

Feeling like you were right there with them.

Presence is always more memorable than perfection.

The Live better longer Solution: Good Enough

One of our favorite phrases:

Good enough.

Good enough decorations.

Good enough table settings.

Good enough menu.

Leave a few things undone.

Buy the cookies instead of baking them.

Skip the elaborate centerpiece.

Ask everyone to bring something.

Create just enough so you can feel the celebration.
